It is entirely your imagination.  The throughput of even local [WiFi]
wire can vary greatly [depending upon conditions, distance, firmware,
etc...] and diminishes exremely rapidly with competing nodes.

Of course, if your cabling is bad, your switch is junk, .... your
wireless might be faster then your copper.
