[GRLUG] iPad

The fact that apple is enlarging the traditionally closed, locked
down, and hacking-hostile world of small devices into the realm of
netbooks, rather than shrinking the traditionally open, royalty-free,
and hacker-friendly world of desktop and laptop computers is worthy of
ridicule. The fact that Apple has significant financial incentive to
do so (thanks to all the revenue brought in via Apple's app store,
itunes, and other walled gardens) is sad. The fact that many people
seem perfectly happy with this situation is frightening.

Apple fans should not only be upset that the iPad is merely a larger
iPod Touch, but that the iPod Touch and iPhone are merely more
featureful versions of the same locked down handsets carriers have
been selling for decades. If you can't put Debian (or another
similarly Free OS) on it, you don't own it, and it's not living up to
it's potential.
