I hope you have (usb) dvd/cdrom drive.....
I would try booting from a live cd - I like ubuntu 10.10

You might try ubuntu for netbooks (I did not like it - just personal preference) 
it seemed to work just fine.

 There is still a bug in the program must use RAID!

Lucky Me! I got an ASUS Eee PC 1001PX for Christmas.
It's got windows 7 Starter on it, and I plan on dual booting it.
it's got a 160GB HD in it and 1 GB RAM.
I'm running Ubuntu on my desktop and I'm also a fan of Mandriva.
The Question is,

    What distro would you suggest for it.
