AT&T is very poorly rated in some
ways, including cell phones.  More
generally, the gap between advertised
performance and actual is much
higher with DSL.  I've tested Comcast's
cable speeds, and they are most often
as advertised.  When DSL says "up to,"
it's often not even that on a test server.

AT&T's U-verse has a 24 Mbps option,
but I rather doubt that's real.

I'm no Comcast fan, and it has pretty
much stated that it will not offer higher
speeds now unless it has to.  Sadly,
there really is nothing else around for
the highest speeds.
