Though there are some power generating issues when braking and generating power from that... Obviously you start adding a bit of complexity here though with a 'home built' project.

The problem with this idea is that it is impossible.  We cannot create a
generator efficient enough to keep a battery charged and also provide
enough power to keep the generator working.  Even if you take away the
charging batteries part it still wouldn't work.  That would be like
plugging an extension cord into itself.
