[GRLUG] OFF TOPIC Electric Car

If your motivation is economical it's not really worth it. There is plenty
of oil right now, they just can't get it out of the ground fast enough. The
situation with cars is that they litter the earth. The automakers are now
realizing that fact. Most people who buy new cars don't need NEW, they just
like SHINY new.

You can get kits from Electro
Auto<http://www.electroauto.com/catalog/price-pts.shtml>since the
1970's. I believe the first car invented was actually electric,
before oil was discovered. It's just not worth bothering DIY for $10,000+
when a mass produced electric car market is here and will deliver more
bang-for-the-buck.

If you like 2-wheels right now Vectrix <http://www.vectrix.com/> is
compelling. Also the Electric
Motorsports<http://www.electricmotorsport.com/>bike. Hopefully the
Venture
One <http://flytheroad.com/> comes to production.

Personally I like to buy beaters. My current car had a $200 purchase price
and I drive it daily for the last two years. I don't have to worry about car
washes, shopping carts, scratching the paint or pedestrians. When it dies I
call the junkyard and get money for the next beater.
