As I recall, the intel graphics issue is a problem with the Intel
drivers.  Intel had put the drivers on a back burner, betting nobody
would release a mainstream distro with Compiz enabled by default.  The
Ubuntu folks enabled it by default, apparently to jog Intel into
action.

FWIW, my system uses an Intel chipset.
