No...  Laptops are very nearly as expandable as Desktops these days...
 With USB (especially 2.0) and MiniPCI, you can add sound cards, any
type of misc. port, SCSI SATA PATA etc. controllers, graphics cards
(USB or MiniPCI - yes, both exist), modems, network cards, etc. etc.
etc.

You may be limited in your options for any specific type of device,
but the variety of devices available is pretty much equal for desktops
and laptops these days.
