Not specifically what you are looking for, but you could just run Samba or NFS off from a livecd. All you'll have to do is load a
configuration file when the LiveCD boots up and you'll be ready to rock and roll, and that will maximize your disk space for storage!

I did this at home for a few weeks while I was waiting to purchase a new hard drive replacement for my server's OS (i keep data/OS
on separate drives) and everything worked great.

If you do utilize another solution I'd be interested in hearing what you end up with, please post back.
