Yeah, that's a tough one... Root is basically God in terms of machine 
access so it really doesn't make sense to be able to hide things (it's 
like asking God to please refrain from looking behind the curtain.) I 
suppose the thing to do might be to try to make the administrators 
understand how easily accessible the key really is in windows and linux 
both? I suppose it boils down mainly to a question of trust. Do you 
trust the students to know the key and if not why? What could they do 
with the knowledge of the key that they could not do otherwise? (More 
less it just gives them the ability to hookup unauthorized computers) 
Would they do it?
